In Jonas' new work package, one piece of paper outlined the 8 rules he had to live by. Rule#8 stated "You may lie."
Why does Jonas find the instruction about lying so disturbing? 3 Sentences minimum. (What would you feel/think if you were given this "permission"?)

When Jonas got his training sheet it said in rule 8 that he could lie. He is so disturbed because one of the most important rules in his community is you’re not allowed to lie! And because he has never ever, lied in his entire life and was not planning too!

He thought it was disturbing because he had never lied before so it’s new to him to do that. Also he was taught not to lie so he was astonished. He probably didn’t think about lying before.

Jonas would feel disturbed because he might have never lied in his live. If I got this rule I would feel a bit disturbed because if you lie you get a guilty feeling that I’ve got ample of times. in this chapter Jonas lied a little wich he did feel bad about. He also thought that his parents might lie to him so he asked do you love me.

Rule#8 You May Lie
ReplyDeleteHe finds it so disturbing because the most important rule in his community was not to lie. His family does not want him to lie and he has never ever in his life lied before. If he did lie he would be punished till he got the rule#8. If I was given the permission I would think that should only lie if I had to. I would feel uncomfortable lying or being told I could lie. I would probably get really guilty it I lied to someone.
Emma:)
I think that Jonas thinks that Rule number eight is disturbing is because he has lived by those rules his whole life and now he cannot just changed. I think that now he has more freedom but he does not know it. If I was in this community I would like to lie but I would want to know if everybody else could lie.
ReplyDeleteRyan
Jonas’s found the rule you may lie instruction because in their community they are not allowed to lie and also they did not have needs for lying. Then Jonas’s got the rule you may lie and everything changed. The first rule was when he asked his parents if they loved him and they said why use such a plain word and then they said do you understand then Jonas said yes but he lie and the real answer was no.

ReplyDeleteI think that Jonas is disturbed by the rule you may lie because nobody was allowed to lie he was disturbed. Jonas is scared because he doesn’t know if anyone had that same rule. Jonas has only just lie once to his parents.

You may lie
ReplyDeleteI think it might be disturbing for Jonas because he has never lied to anyone at anytime. So it must be considered rude where he is. Finding out he may lie is probably weird. He must have been stunned and freaked out. But maybe his parents got the same rules as well, but he might not know because they might be lying.

I think that Jonas was disturbed because, he was allowed to lie cuss the Giver told him that he could do that. Jonas is a little bit scared because he does not know if anybody else would have, that same rule.
ReplyDeleteHe thinks that lying is disturbing because in his community, they can’t lie to anyone. Also, he thinks it’s disturbing because he thinks when and who will he lie to. Furthermore, he was confused because if he lied to anyone, he never knew if they could lie. Also, he has never lied in his life. I would feel happy if I could lie because now, I could lie to self-defend myself. Moreover, I would feel sad because one day, you have to tell the truth.

May lie
ReplyDeleteJonas found the rule he may lie disturbing because he had never lied in his life even when he was a kid he never lied. One time when he was a kid he said that he was starving but in their community they took it as a lie. Jonas only used that rule once to get out of something. Jonas was very surprised when he saw that rule in his binder. Jonas thought when he saw that rule is that he would never use it ever.

The Giver
ReplyDeletePersonally I think that he finds the rule that says you may lie disturbing because he was taught to never lie to anyone. I was in his position I would be stunned to hear this rule that says you may lie because if I had never had that rule before I would be afraid cheerios and partly happy. Maybe a little confused about why I got that horrible rule.

The Giver
ReplyDeleteI think that Jonas is feeling disturbed because when he was younger, the instructions were that you cannot lie. Another reason is he might feel excited that he can lie to anyone he wants to. If I was given permission to lie, I would still not lie because I find that it is really rude to, especially if you lie to your parents.
Corin
I think Jonas found the rule disturbing because he hasn’t lied before. Jonas is not used to lying in his community. I wouldn’t want to lie if I had that rule. I think it is good to have that rule because if someone asked Jonas about his job and he didn’t want to tell anyone about it, then he would be fine.
ReplyDeleteAmelia
I think he found it disturbing because in that community it is against the rules to lie. So then he wasn’t sure if everyone got that rule. And if they did, how would he know? They could lie when he asks! He might never now. I would feel a little disturbed to, you will never know if or when you get the truth. and if people find out they will not trust you or they will tell everyone and no one will trust you, possibly, ever.

Hi sara
DeleteI believe that Jonas finds it so disturbing is because he never lied before. I think that he will use that rule because it is to his advantage. I think that I would use that rule a little bit.
ReplyDeleteLOGAN
I think why Jonas found it disturbing is because for all his life he had not lied, and now it is a huge change for him. Also because he knows that lying is wrong and now he is breaking the rules but he will not get in trouble. Also he will find it very wrong lying to his family.
ReplyDeleteI would not like this rule at all because if you got caught lying you would be in trouble, and because lying is very wrong and rude.
:) Campbell :)
In my opinion, I think why Jonas finds the instruction you may lie disturbing because in his community one of the rules was never to lie and he never did so Jonas is not used to his new instruction. Jonas will never know if the citizens of his community who are twelve or older had the same instructions and are allowed to lie, so if he ever talks to them he will never know if their telling the truth or a lie. I also think why Jonas finds the new instruction so disturbing because in his community it was very disrespectful to lie so, if Jonas did lie, it would feel to him as if he was being disrespectful of his community.

Rule #8 you may lie
ReplyDeleteWhen Jonas got his training sheet there were eight rules and the eighth rule said that you may lie. I think he was feeling weird because it would be odd lie in a community that doesn’t allow lying. So he must be thinking if he should use it or not. I don’t think he should.

The Giver Rule # 8 You May Lie
ReplyDeleteHe found it disturbing because he had never lied before. He felt shocked this kind of rule that he was allowed to do. He knew it was against the law in his community to lie.
If I was allowed to lie I would feel bad but I think it would depend on why or who I am lying too. I may feel guilty maybe a little if I was not told to do it cause it is not really right.

I think he felt disturbed because in his younger childhood, he was asked not to lie. I also think he felt excited because he thinks he could lie to anybody from then on. If I had this opportunity, I would still not lie because it would make people feel unhappy and upset.

wonder full job
DeleteBefore he became a twelve he had lied once by accident and got talked to about lying and how it was not proper speech to say he was starving he was hungry and no one would ever be starving in this community .Jonas found it disturbing because he does not know if Asher lies if Lily lies or his parents. He wondered if everyone becoming a twelve in their instruction folder one of the rules said you may lie so he is starting to wonder if everyone lies and he does not know.
ReplyDeleteTrevor
Jonas thought that the rule “you may lie” was disturbing because he wondered if anyone like his parents and other twelve’s had gotten that same rule. He also was disturbed because he thought that Asher and Fiona had gotten that rule and was lying to them. If I had that rule, I would feel forced (made) into doing something that I don’t have to do. I would also feel like I have to do it when I wouldn’t want to.

You may lie
ReplyDeleteThe reason why Jonas found lying so disturbing is because he was not allowed to lie when he was a kid. And he thought what if everyone else could lie to. And if his parents have been lying to him his whole life.
Callum
You May Lie
ReplyDeleteJonas found lying so disturbing because it could break up the friendship with Asher, Fiona and other friends of his. The advantage is that if someone in the community asks him something, and if he doesn’t want to answer, he can lie. He has never lie before, so he might not know what will happen if he does it.
