Monte's Sixth Life...

In his sixth life, Montezuma was stalking a fledgling pigeon when he came across an intruder in his territory.

"This was a cat Montezuma had not met before and he would take his time before he attacked.  He watched the black cat move and noted the strength in his shoulders: he glared into its yellow eyes and probed for weakness but found none.  Montezuma...struck out across the black cat's nose.  But the black cat was young and knew only how to attack.  He sprang forward again...Montezuma knew now that he had underestimated his adversary."

1) Using two or more sentences tell what the author means when he says
"...he glared into its yellow eyes and probed for weakness but found none.
2) Write a description of the black cat in your own words using at least two sets of Quality Dual Adjectives to paint a picture in my mind of what the cat looks like and sounds like to you.  What do you imagine the cat is called?  Where did he come from?  Will he be back?

Do both questions in Microsoft Word.  Use all your COPS skills and include as many dressups as you need to make it interesting to read and descriptive.

  1. I think the black cat will be back for revenge and I think he will have a family to help him out to beat Montezuma. To me the black cat makes me think of a cat that is black all over and has a white stripe underneath on the. But has bright yellow eyes.

  2. I think the author meant that Montezuma looked into his enemy’s eyes and also looked for its weakness. The young cats legs are strong and fast when it runs and it only knows how to fight.

  3. I think she meant was Montezuma was looking for a weekness spot to attack the other black cat but he could not find a weakness spot on the mighty and strong cat. I think the cat looks like a black cat but with a straight white line on it back in the middle. Monte thinks the black cat came back but he did not come back to the farm.

  4. Montezuma
I think when the author said “he glared into its yellow eyes and probed for weakness but found none.” He means the black cat seemed like a good opponent to attack. He also meant the black cat would maybe have a chance to take his farm.
I think the black cat would look like a bright dark night in the sky and Montezuma looks like a bright ginger tom cat with glowing orange fur. The black cat I think would sound like it maybe growling at Montezuma, and he would sound as if ready to as he did and that sounded like the ground is tour up and he does a little roar at the black cat. I imagine the black cat maybe to Montezuma is called night mare, he may come from a house near the farm yard. He maybe back because the black cat lost fight to Montezuma and he might either want pay back or a rematch so he could take over his farm yard.

  5. 1. The author means that when Montezuma was looking at the black cat eyes, Montezuma was looking for any weakness that the black cat has but somehow, Montezuma found none.
    2. The black cat looks confident and muscular and looks young and energetic. The black cat also sounds vicious and hungry. The black cat must have thought that Montezuma is living but scared.

  6. 1) I think that when Montezuma was looking in his eyes he was looking for strength in his body to fight with black cat.
    2) I think the black cat looks like that he wants to fight with Montezuma and that the black came from the bushes and he saw Montezuma and that now he wanted to fight with him.

  7. 1. The author means that when Montezuma glared in to his yellow eyes and found no weakness. That in the eyes of the black cat he was very confident inside and did not show a weakness.
    2. The cat to me sounded like he was ready but not that confident to fight. The cat looks muscular and tough I think his name is shadow. I think he came from miles away. I don’t think he will be back.

  8. 1) I think he meant he looked in to the black cats eyes. What I also think for he found no weakness is that he new the black cat was strong.
    2) The huge and black cat hissed louder than a horn. I think the cat name would be Humongo or something mean. I think he came from the same place as Montie. I do not think he will come back.

  9. One: I think the authors means that he was looking into the black cats eyes to try to find why he was trespassing and if he means harm.

Two: When I think of the black cat that was trespassing in Montezuma’s territory, I get a picture of a sneaky and swift cat stalking Montezuma from the fields. I think the cat sounds like bushes rustling as it moves through the fields and a sound of a slight purring. I think he would be back to stalk Montezuma again!

  10. I think what the author meant by “he glared into its yellow eyes and probed for weakness but he found none”, was he looked into the cats eyes he searched where the cat would be the weakest on its body, but he could not find a weakness. So it was harder for Montezuma to defeat his enemy. The dusky cat had glossy fur and radiant eyes. The cat was vigorous and large and had long claws and was very vicious. But he did not know how to hunt.

  11. I think the author means that Montezuma was scared and mad at the same time because a different cat was on his territory.

  12. I think the author meant when he said
He glared into its yellow eyes and probed for weakness but found none.
Was that Montezuma was almost scared but not quiet yet
I think the black cat is little but strong. He has full yellow eyes in the shape of black ovals. I think his name would be kind of weird like jeepers or something like that. I think the cat is a stray and has already got in a fight. I also think he is black with a big long strip white down his back.

  13. 1. I think the author means that Monty was trying to find weakness and found none. I think Monty was trying to find strength in his body, to fight with the black cat but, found none.

    2. I think the black cat would want to fight with Montezuma but Monty didn’t want to fight. I think that the black cat was a stray and just came out of the bushes to scared Monty.

  14. 1) When the author says… he glared into its yellow eyes and probed for weakness but found nothing feels like the author is Montezuma. When something looks into my eyes I feel uncomfortable.
    2) I think the appropriate name for the muscular, but mini black cat could be Fear. He probably came from another farm. I think he could come back for revenge.

  15. I think he means that the un-known named cat is very strong. He does not have a weakness. And will fight till he feels torn.I see the black cat as a sleek, shiny, young and fierce cat. I think the cat is called, Shadow. I see the cat as a fast black cat and I like the name Shadow for girl or boy black cats or dogs. I think he’s from:
    *another farm,
    *city or
*he’s a stray, born on the side of a rode or like Monte, ran off and lived.
No, I do not think he will come back (done the book).

  16. 1) I think the author means that Montezuma was looking into the black cats

eyes and was looking for weakness but couldn’t find any. He was

    checking out his opponent.

    2) I think the black cat appears to be athletic and stealthy. He seems

to be quiet but alert. I imagine the cat is called Midnight. The cat may

have come from somewhere else and just walked into Montezuma’s

territory. I expect he will be back because he wants to get revenge on

    Montezuma.

  17. 1) I think the author meant that Montezuma was staring at the young cat because he was trying to find out whether he was as strong as he was. I think Montezuma found only courage in the black cats eyes.

    2) I think the black cat was very young and wise. Montezuma must have been surprised that the keen and slim feline was in his path. The strong but mysterious cat was probably a stray. I think the stray was called Smokey or Shade because he was a black cat. He may be homeless, as he may have run away from his family. Yes, he will probably be back to test Montezuma.

  18. 1)I think the author meant Montezuma was staring at the other cat seeing if there was any fear in him but he didn't find anything. Obviously the other cat wasn't afraid of Montezuma and didn't care what Monte can do to him.

2)To me, the black cat sounds very mean and maybe even mad at somone or something. The cat seems to like to get into trouble so maybe he does not have anyone to care for him anymore and to be watched out for. I think he will come back and press montezuma's buttons just to say the he is back and ready to go again.

  19. 1.In my opinion, I think what the author meant, was that Montezuma was looking into the black cats eyes seeing if the black cat would notice then run away from Montezuma’s territory, so if the black cat did run away, Montezuma would know that the black cat feared him. Since the black cat did not run away Montezuma knew that the black cat had no fear whatsoever of him.

2.I think that the black cat is nasty and fearless because he had the courage to fight with Montezuma and had such a large fight that Montezuma would never forget it. The black cat was to me almost like a dark shadow in the daytime, but blended in with the darkness at night. He was a very violent cat and would not back off from other cats’ territories without a fight. I imagine the black cat’s name is Sneaky Sam. I think that the cat originally came from caring owners somewhere on the farm, but eventually the owners did not care for him and then let him fend for himself on the farm. I think that the black cat will not come back to fight with Montezuma because since there are many cats on the farm. The black cat will forget about Montezuma and the fight they had in the past.

  20. 1. I think this is what the author meant when he said he glared into its yellow eyes and probed for weakness but found none. That Monte hoped to find weakness but found none.
    2. I think that the black cat looked like a black tom cat with white feet. He was small but vicious. He didn’t back down from anything that Monte did. He was stealth and swift in the field. Since he was so physically strong I think he would have a strong name like Jack. I think he was a stray cat that lived with old Sid. I don’t think he would come back since he was beaten by Monte.

  21. 1. I think when the author said he glared into its eyes and found no weakness. He meant that the cat was not easy to determine what its weakness was.

    2. I think that the black cat is strong, healthy, and young and is determined to get new territories. I think that the cat sounds like he is well fed smart and curious. The cat may be called shadow. I think it might live in the wilderness or a junkyard. I also think that the black cat is not going to come back because of how wounded it became during the fight.

  22. I think that he meant that Montezuma was weak. He was looking at the big black cat. I think that the cat is big and swift so he could fight Montezuma when they were fighting. I think that maybe the cat had gray stripes.

  23. I think the author means that
When Montezuma glared in to the cat’s yellow eyes he found nothing to be scared of. Also not to stop fighting.

I think that the black cat looks like a has a white chest and white feet with black of the rest of him. Yes the other cat will be back
